The State Inspector Londa Toloraia Met with the Director of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Sara Rupert

An introductory meeting was held between Londa Toloraia and the Director of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Sara Rupert at the State Inspector’s Service. The meeting aimed at discussing activities of the State Inspector’s Service, needs and opportunities for future cooperation. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the State Inspector’s Service and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

In the course of the meeting, Londa Toloraia briefed the Director of INL on the main achievements of the Service, implemented and ongoing reforms. She also discussed in detail the challenges the Service faces in terms of its practical activities and legislation. Among others, the discussion touched upon the important role of an independent investigative mechanism, factors hindering effective conduct of investigation and activities to be taken to eliminate them as well as the need for strengthening human and material-technical needs of the Service. Additionally, the parties discussed the issue of separation investigative and prosecutorial functions.

For her part, Sara Rupert was interested in the mechanism for receiving reports of ill-treatment, practical aspects of the investigative process, degree of cooperation from other entities and professional experience of the investigators of the Service.

Active cooperation with the international partners is of strategic importance for the State Inspector’s Service. In the framework of the meeting, the parties agreed on continuing active cooperation in the future.
